After Turkey’s participation in Bologna Process in 2001, Izmir University of Economics has initiated activities regarding this process in parallel with the studies carried out by Higher Education Council.

First, studies are carried out in the academic units to determine ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits of the courses that take place in the curricula of the University and it is put into effect following the approval of the University Senate.

DS (Diploma Supplement) samples are prepared for the associate degree, undergraduate degree, masters, and PhD degrees offered at the University, and the approval of the Higher Education Council is received on April 27, 2005.

Although Higher Education Council anticipated to make it compulsory as of 2005 – 2006 academic year, Izmir University of Economics has been giving Diploma Supplement (DS) to the students together with their diplomas since the graduation of the first undergraduate program students in 2004 – 2005 academic year.

Diploma Supplement Label application of the University in January 2010 was approved and the University qualified for Diploma Supplement Label given by European Commission. The certification was given to the University on October 5, 2010 at a ceremony held in Brussels.

The Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document accompanying a higher education diploma, which increases the quality and recognition of the higher education institutions while providing an international credibility.

On the other hand, it has been approved in the Senate meeting dated January 08, 2010 to initiate studies for preparing learning outcomes for associate degree, undergraduate degree, masters, Ph.D. degrees of the curricula of the University compatible with “European Higher Education Competence Frame” and “National Competence Frame” and redefining the ECTS credits of the courses in curricula based on workload. Studies have been carried out in accordance with the specified calendar. Instruction programs compatible with “European Higher Education Competence Frame” and “National Competence Frame” have been put into effect as of 2010-2011 academic year.

In 2011, the University applied for ECTS Label, which is an honorary distinction awarded by European Commission to higher education institutions that demonstrated the correct implementation of ECTS principles and requirements, and Izmir University of Economics has been the only foundation university in Turkey to have been awarded with the label.
